Practical Horticulture With A Long-Term Approach
Many gardens already have good bones - they simply require thoughtful rejuvenation, improved soil health, considered planting and ongoing horticultural care to bring balance and functionality back to the space.
Our approach focuses on working carefully within existing landscapes rather than unnecessarily removing and replacing established planting wherever possible. In many cases, restoring and improving what already exists is not only more environmentally conscious but also creates healthier and more resilient gardens long term.
BEFORE & AFTER
Case Study: Garden Rejuvenation Project in Alphington
THE CHALLENGE:
While most of the beds in this Alphington garden were in fairly good shape (only requiring targeted weed management and some light soil reconditioning) the main central bed was completely overrun by invasive Kikuyu grass and was experiencing severe soil compaction (the legacy plastic weed matting so often leaves behind).
THE SOLUTION:
Our primary overhaul focused strictly on the central bed, where we stripped out the failed plastic matting and undertook thorough manual weed management to eradicate the invasive Kikuyu grass. We then executed deep cultivation of the soil profile and integrated a rich, new top layer of soil to reverse long-term compaction and restore vital nutrients and structure. The final stage of this garden overhaul was replanting, focusing on the use of local indigenous species. While comprehensive garden rejuvenation was an integral part of this project in the early stages, our monthly ongoing garden maintenance is what is now allowing this central feature to continue to flourish long-term.
