BEFORE & AFTER
Case Study: Garden Rejuvenation Project in Alphington
THE CHALLENGE:
While most of the beds in this Alphington garden were in fairly good shape (only requiring targeted weed management and some light soil reconditioning) the main central bed was completely overrun by invasive Kikuyu grass and was experiencing severe soil compaction (the legacy plastic weed matting so often leaves behind).
THE SOLUTION:
Our primary overhaul focused strictly on the central bed, where we stripped out the failed plastic matting and undertook thorough manual weed management to eradicate the invasive Kikuyu grass. We then executed deep cultivation of the soil profile and integrated a rich, new top layer of soil to reverse long-term compaction and restore vital nutrients and structure. The final stage of this garden overhaul was to replanting, focusing on the use of local indigenous species. While comprehensive garden rejuvenation was an integral part of this project in the early stages, our monthly ongoing garden maintenance is what is now allowing this central feature to continue to flourish long-term.
